Members of the Organising Committee of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011 in the Liberec Region have decided to help people affected by recent devastating floods that hit the region. Money collected in the current campaign will be used to provide bottled water, food, cleaning tools and other necessary items.
The Organisers of the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011 in the Liberec Region are facing another challenging task in the long course of preparations. This involves choosing a medal design for the more than 200 medals the best athletes from throughout Europe will take home with them. On Thursday, 8th July, the first round of selection took place and only seven out of more than 60 medal designs were placed on the short-list.
Vladimír Richter, former Vice Chairman of the Public Benefit Corporation EYOWF 2011, has been elected its new Chairman of the Administrative Board. The 40-year-old member of the Regional Assembly of the Liberec Region held the office of Regional councillor for transportation from 2004 to 2008 and has been the Mayor of Jilemnice since 2006. His hobbies include his family, sport and culture, his life credo is “Better not talk about improving things, but rather take an active part in carrying them out.” In his new office in the Public Benefit Corporation EYOWF 2011 he replaces Petr Doležal, who died after severe illness.
Today, at a gala press conference in the Clarion Grandhotel Zlatý Lev in Liberec, the patrons Lukáš Bauer, Tomáš Verner, Roman Koudelka and Marek Schwarz christened the official mascot of the EYOWF 2011 in the Liberec Region – Rampich the Icicle. The author of the design is graphic studio ListDesign from Liberec.
The Opening Ceremony of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival on 13th February 2011 in Liberec Tipsport arena will be personally attended by Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee. This top sporting event for youth under 18 years of age in the Liberec Region will also be supported by elite Czech athletes. The patrons of each Festival discipline are, amongst others, Lukáš Bauer, Šárka Záhrobská and Tomáš Verner. They christened the official mascot of the 2011 Festival the Icicle “Rampich” at the press conference in Liberec today.
Roman Kumpošt, a long-time skiing official and at present the Honorary President of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee, has achieved a great diplomatic success. On Friday, 4th June, at a congress in Turkish Antalya, he was elected to the Council of the International Ski Federation (FIS). Roman Kumpošt replaced Milan Jirásek, who had decided not to stand for the post again, in this the highest body of the ski organisation.
