Over the last weekend in November, the organisers of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011 took an important trip to Lisbon, where they presented the current state of Festival preparations in the Liberec Region at the regular General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

Representatives of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee - Kateřina Nyčová, the Executive Director, Martin Ditrich, Financial Director, and the Honorary President of the Organising Committee Roman Kumpošt – presented in front of a wide audience the current state of preparations and plans for the immediate future, as well as a special edition of the Festival newsletter and promoted the biggest sporting event in the history of the Czech Republic on multiple levels. The two-day meeting consisted not only of presentations, but also of personal meetings with EOC officials, members of national Olympic Committees and organisers of Olympic Festivals and Olympic Games.

Kateřina Nyčová, the Executive Director of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee summarises: “The delegates’ reactions were very positive. On an international scale, the Czech Republic is seen as a top-level organiser. Despite having made a mark with our presentation, we must not slacken in our efforts. We screened the 2011 Festival’s promotion video for the first time in front of the delegates, with a, we believe, positive response. The clip presents the event’s venue, i.e. the Liberec Region, as well as each of the sports. Overall, I believe our visit proved a success.”

Apart from the Czech representatives, there were also presentations by organisers of future sporting events, including the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010, Summer Olympic Games in London 2012, Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010 and its winter variant in Innsbruck 2012, as well as many others.

The meeting also announced the candidates for the summer and winter EYOF 2015. One of the candidate cities for the summer Festival is Brno, with its opponent being the Georgian capital Tbilisi.

The 38th EOC General Assembly, which was organised by the local Olympic Committee to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of its foundation, elected its Executive Committee. Approximately, one third of the Committee changed, with Patrick Hickey maintaining the position of President.

Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, members of European and international sport federations and many other renowned figures from the Olympic and sporting sphere were among the participants in the two-day meeting.
