Jakub Gräf, a 17-year-old skier from Dukla Liberec, achieved an outstanding result at the 9th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2009 in Beskidy, Poland. He placed second in the 10km free technique and thanks to his efforts the Czech Republic has won its only medal at the European Youth Olympics so far.




On Sunday, 15th February, the 9th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival starts in the Polish ski resort of Szczyrk along with other towns in the Polish Beskidy. Apart from the young Czech athletes, a delegation consisting of representatives of the Liberec Region and members of the Organising Committee of the upcoming 10th EYOWF 2011, which will be taking place in the Liberec Region, are also taking part.

The logo of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival, created by a 16-year-old student of the Applied Arts School and College in Jablonec nad Nisou, Veronika Vysloužilová, has been ceremoniously christened. The ceremony took place on January 21, at a press conference held at the Grandhotel Zlatý Lev in Liberec. Witnessed by the national and regional media representatives, the President of the Liberec Region, Stanislav Eichler, and the Chairman of the Czech Olympic Committee, Milan Jirásek, became the logo’s godfathers.

Over the last weekend in November, the organisers of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011 took an important trip to Lisbon, where they presented the current state of Festival preparations in the Liberec Region at the regular General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

On November 21 – 23 the 37th General Assembly of the Association of European Olympic Committees (EOC) was held in Istanbul. It was attended by the top representatives of the Czech Olympic Committee led by its President Milan Jirásek, as well as by the delegation of the EYOWF 2011 Liberec Organising Committee consisting of Martin Ditrich, Kateřina Nyčová, Daniel Merz, and the Project Advisor Roman Kumpošt.

Current stage of preparations, inspection of the sports venues and facilities, and sharing experience – this was the subject matter of the seminar intended for the Chefs de mission related to the 9th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2009, which was held in the Polish winter resort Szczyrk. Delegation of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee consisting of Kateřina Nyčová, Martin Ditrich, and Daniel Merz attended this meeting on 7 - 8th November.
