On Thursday 15th October, members of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011 Organising Committee met in Liberec. The same Organising Committee is involved in the preparations of the Games of the IV Olympic Days for Children and Youth of the Czech Republic in January 2010 (ODM), which will begin in less than four months and which were the central theme of the meeting.
The upcoming 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011 in the Liberec Region will also have an Honorary Board. At present the Board consisting of well-known personalities, who will assist in promoting the Festival, is being constituted.
Liberec Vesec was the site of the opening of the additional programme for schools vyCOOL se!. This will be accompanying two significant sporting events organised by the Liberec Region over the next year and a half, the Games of the IV. Olympic Days for Children and Youth of the Czech Republic in January 2010 (ODM) and a year later the 10th European Youth Winter Olympic Festival 2011 (EYOWF). The openings were attended by representatives of the Liberec Region, the Czech Olympic Committee and renowned sports figures.
The Czech Nordic Combined team will be participating in the highlight of the domestic season on Wednesday the 9th of September. The summer national championships will take place in the Liberec sports grounds at Ještěd and Vesec in the categories of seniors, juniors and children. The championship is organised by the civic group EYOWF 2011 in cooperation with Dukla Liberec and will include international participation as it is part of the FIS tournament in Nordic Combined, replacing the traditional Continental Cup.
The skilled ski officer and diplomat, Mr. Roman Kumpost, became Honorary President of the Organising Committee of the 10th European Youth Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011. The President of the Liberec Region, Mr. Stanislav Eichler, officially introduced him in this new position at today’s press conference.
The Liberec Region will play host over the following two years to two renowned sporting events. At the end of January 2010 the Olympic Days for Children and Youth (ODM) 2010 for students of primary schools will take place. This competition will also be a practice run of sorts for the year 2011 when the 10th European Youth Winter Olympic Festival (EYOWF) 2011 will take place in the Liberec Region designated for young athletes. The preparations for both of these important events will be linked with a unique accompanying programme which includes active sports, education and entertainment. The programme vyCOOL se!, which consists of up to 40 competitions will kick off on the 9th of September in Vesec.
