On July 21st and 22nd, a delegation of European countries took part in a special series of lectures prepared by the organisers of the 10th European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) 2009 in Tampere. Not only did the members acquire information about the organisation of such a top event, but they also visited the venues and witnessed the background aspects of EYOF 2009.

Representatives of the Coordination Commission of the European Olympic Committee and members of the EYOF 2009 Organising Committee in Tampere prepared a two-day seminar (Observer Programme) for the members of the Organising Committees from the countries hosting the upcoming European Youth Olympic Festivals or other top sport events. The programme was divided into two thematic sections: administrative, attended by executive management, marketing representatives, and accreditation and media services and the sports section designed for sport directors, Olympic village coordinators, transport and security managers and health care workers. All participants received important information regarding the preparations and course of the event, visited sport venues and the facilities in all sectors of organisation. Among the forty participants were also representatives of the Czech organisers of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival which will take place in the Liberec Region in 2011. There were also delegates from Trabzon in Turkey, which hosts the next summer EYOF in 2011, as well as a delegation from Singapore, which will host the first ever Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2010 and last but not least an Austrian delegation, which will organise a winter version of YOG in Innsbruck in 2012.

Kateřina Nyčová, the Executive Director of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee, commented: “Over these two days we will acquire a great deal of useful information about the Festival’s ideology, preparations and organisation. It is wonderful that the Finnish organisers will share their practical knowledge and experience, which will be essential for us during the preparations of EYOWF 2011 in the Liberec Region.” She also added that “all the venues are in excellent conditions, which results from effective cooperation between the Organising Committee and the city of Tampere, owner of the venues.” Volunteers play an important part in a top event such as this. Vanda Šulcová, Volunteer Manager and Manager for the Additional Programme explained: “There are about 1,500 volunteers in Tampere, all of them helpful and obliging. Most of them speak English, which makes communication easier and helps all Festival participants.”
