Step by step in 2009

From the Organisers’ point of view, the year 2009 brought the following milestones:

January
The initial EYOWF 2011 press conference (see photo) involving the christening of the EYOWF 2011 logo, attended by the President of the Liberec Region Stanislav Eichler and the President of the Czech Olympic Committee Milan Jirásek.

February
Representatives of the Liberec Region and the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee received the symbol of the Festival – the Organisers’ flag – in Szczyrk, Poland, where EYOWF 2009 took place.

April
The Organising Committee launched volunteer recruitment. 500 members of the EYOWF Team will take part in the preparations and organisation of the Festival.

May
The results of an exclusive survey carried out by Factum Invenio for the Organising Committee were published. 777 students in nine towns and twelve secondary schools of the Liberec Region answered questions regarding their free time activities. The results served as the basis for the creation of a special accompanying programme to support EYOWF 2011 for students of primary and secondary schools in the region.

July
A delegation of the Organising Committee and the Liberec Region took part in the summer Festival 2009 in Tampere. The aim was to obtain experience in organising such an event and check on the quality of the sport venues and facilities.

August
The Organising Committee in cooperation with the European Olympic Committees, host towns of past Festivals and the Czech Olympic Committee compiled a complete list of the medal history in every discipline of all the previous nine winter Festivals.

September
The ceremonial kick-off of the year-and-a-half special accompanying programme vyCOOL se! for pupils of primary and secondary schools to support EYOWF 2011. The aim is to include young people in the unique atmosphere of the Festival and motivate them to be involved in free time sports and physical activities.

The President of the Liberec Region Stanislav Eichler named Roman Kumpošt, a skiing official and sport diplomat, the Honorary President of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee. Among the first to accept membership on the Honorary Board have been Milan Jirásek, President of the Czech Olympic Committee , and Stanislav Eichler, President of the Liberec Region.

November
The EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee successfully passed a detailed check on the state of preparations during an inspection of the EYOF Coordination Commission for the EYOWF 2011 led by Janko Dvoršak, its Chairman.

Representatives of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee presented the state of preparations at the EOC 38th General Assembly in Lisbon.

December
The European Union awarded EYOWF 2011 with a financial grant of € 2 million (more than 52 million Czech crowns). The Festival thus became the first sporting event in the history of the Czech Republic to be co-financed by European funds.
